Jerking with Drupal

Funny thing. I went into a graduate program in new media (blogging, web technologies, etc.) and had only heard of this thing called Drupal in passing. Honestly, the name makes it sound like a programming language and that scares me. But in this program we’ll be building a site entirely using Drupal, so I had to get acquainted with it. It’s amazing. Maybe it’s on par with things like Movable Type right now, but it’s been so long since I used MT it’s ridiculous. Plus, Drupal is so damn easy to get things installed and working. Making them do exactly what you want is a bit tougher, but I’m learning. If you’re so inclined, check out my development site. I’m installing new things and want to see if people can access what I put out there, comment, like the stuff, and the like. I’m going to try and log all the things I install, tweak, whatever. I plan on moving to Drupal as soon as I get a few hours and after I’ve figured out everything I need to get running here.

The name reminds me of a certain crossdresser. Can’t figure out why.

Its not quite as easy to install as Wordpress but its not that hard. I spent some time with it and ran into a few frustrations. I learned about it from the Inside the Net Podcast where Leo and Amber interviewed Jeff Robbins of Lullabot. Lullabot implemented Drupal on the twit.tv site.
