My latest design

I have been in full hate mode over my site’s design, so I decided to spend a bit of time tonight getting that taken care of. The basic desing is called “Serene” and was the winner (I think) of the Textplates design competition which took place a while back. I particularly like the ever-expanding columns on the right. I just need to find a good image that also is repeatable. So there’s the question. If you can see the edge of the header image on the right, how wide do you normally have your browser window? My normal usage doesn’t have the window wide enough to see the edge, so it won’t be something I think about regularly.

Ryan JerzRyan Jerz is an all-around good guy who shoots photos and video, builds websites, and works in athletics at the University of Nevada, Reno. He received a Masters Degree in 2007 from the University of Nevada, Reno's Reynolds School of Journalism.

I like the new design. I don’t see the edge on the right side unless I go full screen with my browser. Even when I can see the edge, it doesn’t look bad.

As the wife, I am a bit biased, however, I like the new design very much. It’s clean and things are easy to find. Now if only such a design could be applied to our house…

I have given Cobbler an awfully long rope for how I feel about him. Part of that is certainly that it’s not that difficult to make him look stupid. I have enforced two rules here. 1) name calling will not be tolerated unless your name is given, and 2) you have to stay on the current topic if you want to comment on something. He didn’t, and took another shot at me, so I removed the comment. He already has his own blog if that’s how he wants to conduct himself. But I won’t stand for his way of doing things over here. He can absolutely contribute if he has something interesting to say about the topic.

The new layout’s not too bad but the pane on the right seems a bit too large and overpowering with respect to the main pane with the posts. And I miss the cool panoramic view of the mountains that used to be at top.

I like Christy’s comment and I really like your new design. I laughed at your Cobbler comments. At least your cohort persona is consistent with your mr jerz persona. Was at Tahoe tonight and it was raining sooooo hard! Have a good weekend.

Jerz, you have no problem name calling on my site. Also, the comment of mine which you censored did not call any names.

Double standards.

Sorry, Ryan. Not a big fan. It feels like it lacks personality, at least it doesn’t represent your personality. You’re rather bold, very creative and a little quirky. The site, while easy to use, is just…well…

My only complaint about the design is the “There’s more” thing. I prefer expanding the text rather than a link, but hey. That’s me. :)

Dave,

I’m very close to agreeing with that. I’ve always had the full post displayed on the front, but this design called for the excerpts, so I went with it. I do like more appearing on the front page, but it does get annoying always clicking through.
