Mark your calendars. Wednesday, June 24, 2006. Google Calendar it here.
Bike to work day is an annual event for the purpose of basically keeping congestion down and getting people to see how easy it is in our area to ride your bike to work. The event this year has several locations from which to participate, along with actually riding to work.
First, head to Pickett Park (the park right across from Washoe Med, where you sometimes see a helicopter parked) if you want encourage ment and to get your picture taken or some such thing. Then, head to your neighborhood coffee shop for a raffle ticket and free cup of coffee. Participating shops are:
- Bibo Coffee Company – 680 Mount Rose St, Reno
- Comma Coffee – 312 S. Carson St, Carson City
- Deux Groz Nez – 248 California Ave, Reno
- Franz’s Backstube Cafe – 3882 Mayberry Dr, Reno
- Java Joe’s – 319 N. Carson St, Carson City
- Java Jungle – 246 W. First St, Reno
- Reno Cycling and Fitness – 4135 S. Virginia St, Reno
Props to Reno Cycling and Fitness for stepping in, even though they’re not a coffee shop. Let’s hope they have a plan to make the coffee at least decent. There really isn’t a local place down there, so someone had to do it. Anyone see a city conspicuously absent from the list? Yeah, Sparks, I’m talking about you.
Kidding aside, I have tried to ride my bike in the past, and with my kids it became hard. I had a trailer with The Girl as a passenger for a while, but she’s too big for it now. We’ll try again on this day, and maybe we’ll take it up for the summer. I encourage all of you morons to do so as well. Even if you live somewhere else, get on the bike and do something interesting.
