Fremont Cannon 2The Fremont Cannon: The biggest rivalry trophy in college football will be inside Silver and Blue Outfitters on Saturday, July 26, 2008. Photo by Ryan Jerz. One of the coolest things I’ve ever done relating to Wolf Pack sports was have the opportunity to take some photos of the Fremont Cannon inside Cashell Fieldhouse. The shot on the right is by far my favorite of those and is becoming somewhat of an iconic photo. I’ve seen it used all over the place, which is kind of a cool thing for me. Anyway, that cannon is going to make a rare public appearance inside the new Silver and Blue Outfitters store at Meadowood Mall this Saturday. (Full disclosure: I shoot just about all of Silver and Blue Outfitters’ products for their website and I work for the Wolf Pack Athletic Department as the scoreboard video board director during football season)

Here is the official release:

Coach Chris Ault, Fremont Cannon Headline Silver & Blue Outfitters Grand Opening

RENO, Nev.- Numerous University of Nevada athletic department representatives, including Wolf Pack football coach Chris Ault, will be on hand for the formal grand opening of the Silver & Blue Outfitters Store on Saturday, July 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at its newly opened location in the Meadowood Mall. The grand opening will also serve as the official kickoff to the Wolf Pack fall season.

In addition to Coach Ault, other Wolf Pack coaches and administrators, along with the Nevada cheer squad and mascots Alphie and Wolfie Jr., will be on hand to visit with customers. Pack fans will also be able to see the famous Fremont Cannon, the celebrated football rivalry trophy that is annually fought for by Nevada and UNLV, at the grand opening.

Fans can have their photo taken with the cannon, the nation’s largest college rivalry trophy, as well as with coaches in attendance. Children in attendance will be able to get their photos with the Wolf Pack mascots.

Silver & Blue Outfitters, co-owned by Nevada alums Brad Platt and Mark Glodowski, got its start as an online retailer several years ago. Its new retail store features both Wolf Pack apparel and merchandise for fans of all ages and is located across from the Food Court in the Meadowood Mall.

SIlver and Blue OutfittersSilver and Blue Outfitters: the store’s selection is impressive. Photo by Ryan Jerz. It’s pretty cool that the Pack is partnering with a local business to kick off their fall season. Everything you can buy at Silver and Blue Outfitters is licensed with the NCAA and UNR, so it’s all legal and everyone who is supposed to get paid gets paid. Brad and Mark are two really cool guys who have put a ton of work into making their business a success, as well as trying to increase awareness of Pack athletics in Reno and the surrounding areas. They want this to be a community that supports the Pack.

I’m partial, but I think you should get down there Saturday, check the store out (even with the photography I’ve done, I was amazed at their store’s selection), shake hands with Coach Ault and others, and even if you don’t buy something, start thinking about making your way to a Wolf Pack game this season.

Seriously, though, do NOT wear red.
