If only there was a reason for this

Count Major League Baseball among the more progressive pro sports leagues. Or call them late to the party, whichever suits your particular bias. Either way, though, do not feel like you are leaving out the female gender when talking in reference to baseball any longer.

As of the start of the 2007 season, the following rule is in effect:

Gender objectivity: The rulebook now includes the disclaimer that references “to ‘he,’ ‘him’ or ‘his’ shall be deemed to be a reference to ‘she,’ ‘her’ or ‘hers’” where applicable.

Props, baseball, for um, stepping up to the plate, and tackling that nasty propensity for using the word “he” and actually meaning “he.” We at mrjerz.org applaud you.
