The question is, would Reno even want them now?

How I missed this originally is beyond me. It’s hilarious to think that the stepchild city to the east was once thought to want our name attached. Of course they didn’t. If they had, they’d be currently soaked in legitimacy and wouldn’t have that complex that shows itself every time someone mentions the Reno area and doesn’t include the /Sparks. Can someone please tell me something that’s great and started in East Reno? I’ll start the debunkings now.

  • Ribs – nope, I make my own, thanks.
  • Hot August Nights – don’t even bring it up.
  • Marissa – try again.

2 Words: Farmer’s Market! Come on what’s not to love about tons of under-age sluts roaming around trolling for white trash guys?!?
Scoopers: You know you loved their milkshakes, and even if you didn’t the boy and the girl do.

You are from Elko, do you really want to start this?

Okay, I’ll give you Scoopers. It’s cool and the owner is a cool guy. I’ve never been to the Sparks Farmer’s Market, though. But let me tell you, it sounds fantastic. Anything with underage sluts running around sounds exactly like the Sparks I know. When does that start up again? I figured the Sparkies would be out in force to counter this one, especially the semi-cute ones. Wait, aren’t they all semi-cute? Who knows.

As for the Elko crack, it’s kind of weak. At least Elko’s flagship high school wasn’t dropped to the lower division of athletic competition. Sparks is the 1-AA of sports in Nevada, and that’s saying a lot. I know, they’re true “student-athletes” there. Whatever.

Is this really what you have reduced yourself to? Juvenile teasing of a city?

Okay, apparently I was guilty of the comment foul. My bad.

Oh, were you talking about high school teams from Sparks? Care to talk about how Reed’s football team did this year? Or were you just referring to Sparks High, about which I have no special feelings.

Sparks: A Brief Summary of the Rail City, By Marissa

Coney Island Bar: A Sparks and Italian community staple. Don’t mess with the Wednesday night dinners and the Pecans!

The Ponds: Not really around anymore thanks to urban sprawl (ie, where I currently am living) but a fun place for underage drinking none the less

Sparks Nugget: John Ascuaga is a man among men, where else can you go to catch entertianment such as Lisa Marie Presley and Debbie Renyolds in the same month? That’s right…no where! And who can forget about Bertha and Tina, they were great! They came to all of my school functions!

And please don’t think that B Street, oh sorry, “Victorian” only offers cook-offs of the rib variety (BTW is it really necessary for the billboards for said event to have photos of smiling pigs hold forks on them? No, no it’s not) There is also a Chili cook-off thank you very much!

Harvey Whitemore: I don’t see anyone fighting for no more casinos in Reno, why not you ask? Because Reno isn’t worth it, he wants to preserve the beauty that is Sparks.

The Elko crack isn’t weak, it is what it is, a fact that your hometown, regardless of it’s high school football rankings, just got their first Starbucks within the last 2 years, and you have to go into the freakin Red Lion for it…No Thanks!

As for the semi-cute comment, look at who said it…As I told him at the Wal, he’s old, drunk and alone…FACE!!!

Wait. Whittemore is fighting against casinos? Check the news there, Marissa. I’ve never been to the Coney, but I hate pecans. Picons, on the other hand, are decent. Bertha and Tina went to all your school functions? Sounds like a couple of East Reno chicks. I’ll bet they loved the chili, those two.

Todd, I reduced myself to this years ago. I’ve got a long-standing, well, stance against East Reno. It comes up every now and then. And there’s nothing better to bring it out like an article in the paper about its second-tier status. Also, I hope you can tell, I’m TOTALLY serious when I make fun of East reno.

I didn’t mean to leave you out, Laura. How did Reed’s team do this year? Last score I saw from them had something to do with elimination. So I’m guessing they’re not one of the remaining two northern teams.

Funny thing about the Red Lion. We used to go there and hang out in the coffee shop years before anyone had even heard of Starbucks. Those corporate bastards have taken yet another memory and stuffed it in the trashcan. Yes, instead of the ponds, I would hang out in a coffee shop. That must be why YOU’RE the one who had a kid at 20 and out of wedlock and I am the one who…wait a minute.

On the Whittemore thing: I was rolling my eyes as I was writing it…I know what’s really going on there, I was just pretending that I was buying into the hype that he and Ascuaga are putting out there in the papers “We are fighting this battle for the people of Sparks, not for anything we might gain from it.” Uh Huh sure…And I hardly ever went to the ponds, I was scared s-less about it. Please tell me that you know who Bertha and Tina were!?! Too bad we didn’t have a Beer Barrel in Sparks, or I may have been right there with you Mr. Sundowner.

Ryan,
In that case, I have one thing to say to you. 4th st. 90% of the bums and hookers (not the brothel variety, but the street walking variety) reside in Reno. Go Reno!

Ryan Jerz wrote:

Todd,

Where do the other 10% live? Do you think we could offer them some housing to corner the market? And are you sure they actually reside in Reno? I’d guarantee they work in Reno, but when I’m hanging around on 4th street, I usually see them coming from the east. That’s purely anecdotal, mind you, as I’m only there 4-5 times a week.

Yep. 10-2. Losing 39-36 to be eliminated. Damn. What a shitty season they had.
