Reactionary Hurl: Domingo Rivera calls himself Cyber Lawyer. Is he partners with Robocop?
It’s another installment of the Reactionary Hurl, the series that makes useless comments about things you may or may not care one lick about. You are encouraged implored to take part by commenting, sending us tips, and spreading the word.
I love it when I have many topics to choose from. And this Hurl was pretty calming. I had a rough day today. Many of you heard firsthand, but the rest of you have not. My hosting company is now being threatened with legal action if they do not take down my site. The threats (and that’s what they are, again) are citing a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. I can only assume that they are alleging I violated copyright by printing emails that were clearly sent to me and should be covered under fair use (beside that fact that email communication is NOT private, despite the silly disclaimers you see on the bottom of them). I’ll undoubtedly write a lot more on this over the weekend, but I have to first make sure Joyent, whom I love by the way, doesn’t cave in to this extortion attempt.
- Cops and hookers. Sounds tired, right? But this one is better. A California Sheriff and Undersheriff (the actual elected officials) were detained at a brothel near Las Vegas last year. They didn’t just go to the brothel, they got held there by the (presumably) on-duty cops while there. even better, they swear they didn’t know it was a brothel. They asked to go to a massage parlor. Aren’t they the same thing? (RGJ)
- These are some great questions. They are the type, however to be dismissed out of hand by people who don’t want to answer them. The last one, about ethanol, is the best, by far. It’s finally coming under some scrutiny, as it should have a long time ago, and the question needs to be answered. Here’s my solution: don’t fund anything with the government. I know, radical and obviously crackpot. (Ann Onn Everything)
- Pack softball is on a roll. All I can really say about this is that Michelle Gardner is doing a hell of a job. Glad she got that extension. (RGJ)
- I totally got my questions answered. Nice of her to notice me, even though we would probably have to fight if we ever met. (Every Path)
- Hussein found in contempt. I heard about this a couple of weeks ago, as his cases are now fully on my radar. He shares an attorney with another “whistleblower” who was fired from UNR, Terri Patraw. The patterns will play themselves out, but I expect Patraw to file more cases than she already has against university employees. Hussein has filed against seemingly everyone whose name he could find in the directory, and that’s ultimately why he was slammed with the contempt fine. Read the ruling for yourself. (RGJ)
- Domingo Rivera has a blog! And that entry looks really familiar to me. Domingo, is it a violation of copyright for me to link to you? Because you do offer permalinks. And you do allow comments, no doubt moderated. Everyone should go vote in Domingo’s little “Did you like this post” poll at the end of that entry. If you can slog through that crap. (Cyber Lawyer Blog)
And just to be clear, please read the initial Reactionary Hurl so you can understand the context.

I can’t help but wonder what the Nevada Bar thinks about “Cyber Lawyer’s” characterization of himself as (from what I see on the main site) an expert in Internet Law. I know that all the attorney commercials I see on TV have a disclaimer that states that the Nevada Bar Association does not recognize or certify anyone as an expert.
If that disclaimer is necessary for advertisements, I’d imagine the same is true of web sites. But hey – I’m not the “expert.”
