Reactionary Hurl: Terri Patraw and Roger Clemens - bullies to the end?

It’s another installment of the Reactionary Hurl, the series that makes useless comments about things you may or may not care one lick about. You are encouraged implored to take part by commenting, sending us tips, and spreading the word. These are the topics for today: Roger Clemens was on Capitol Hill yesterday, biofuel sucks, so does Facebook, and so does anonymity, OMG so does threatening people who express an opinion about what looks to be a bitter, angry, and largely baseless lawsuit with, well, lawsuits. There is also an album update from someone I respect greatly and a great analogy about the nomination of the Democratic candidate for President. It’s really good.

  • Wait, so biofuel isn’t as efficient as fossil fuels? It’s becoming obvious that our only hope to be secure and financially independent is to somehow harness the ability to make energy from, like, water or something. (Matter)
  • Facebook is becoming annoying? Who knew? I’ve actually logged into Facebook about once int he past two weeks and that was to remove a bunch of stupid apps that were sending me crap I just didn’t care about. Simplicity is really key here. I love LinkedIn for the fact that it only connects me to people who have a legitimate business interest in belonging. No jerking around—just join, stay updated, and check it out every month or so. The real winner is the targeted social networking that’s offered by a company like Ning, which hosts Reno Baby! Reno Baby! is growing and has its ups and downs in activity. People actually seem to care about it, too, which I love. (Journedism’s del.icio.us feed)
  • I love this post. It puts my thoughts on anonymity perfectly down. Bottom line: if you’re going to be a critic, open yourself (your actual self) up to criticism. If you’re unwilling, then hit the road. (The Juice Blog)
  • Terri Patraw case goes to arbitrator. I just wonder if the fact that she’s been threatening people with lawsuits on a message board is a part of the case. Probably not, it should be noted somewhere that someone claiming to be her (and despite the medium, I have little doubt it’s legitimate—this person, early on when people on the board seemingly thought she had a good case, was all smiles and friendly, but is now over the edge angry since the board collective has changed its stance) is doing what they are doing. As this concludes, she’ll probably leave town, and that’s a great thing.
  • Best analysis of the just-about-over Democratic nomination process that I’ve seen. But I’m not a junkie, so what do I know. Horse race analogies are stupid. But I am down with strong play in the low post. (Catfish Stew)
  • Roger Clemens transcends douche status. The dude threw his own wife under the bus and still claim he had no idea what the drugs were that he’s been implicated in taking. The best part is how the public is again being subjected to bullshit about B12 shots, and undoubtedly there will be people who defend that. Except three years ago when Miguel Tejada sat in front of Congress and said he took B12 we all learned (any of us who pay attention, anyway) that B12 was code for steroids. Players publicly expounded on the great benefits of B12 and how great it made them feel, yet from this article we learn that it’s largely recognized as having absolutely no benefit, and baseball teams are instructed not to administer B12 to players. Hmm. I sat at dinner once with a guy who ran track at Arizona. I asked him roids were all over the place when he competed. He looked at me and said that nobody he knew was doing it, but B12 was the shit. When I told him I knew it was code, according to baseball layers anyway, for roids, he looked at me like I had caught him. I have no idea if it’s what I think it is, but if it is, then they’re truly everywhere and something that can get even more out of control. This stuff can kill people—albeit slowly—and needs to be recognized as dangerous. Even if you think it’ll just help you look better. (ESPN)
  • Helen’s cruising along. I just wish I had more time to give her feedback. Not there yet, and this weekend’s looking tough, but I’ll get there eventually. (Big Starlet)
  • Despite the fact that checks are largely eradicated, not to mention used as a way to float money, a local paper has decided to attempt to tie them in to avoiding stalkers and affect a business’s bottom line. Please. As if there aren’t other, even more private options than checks. Except if you use those options, the transaction might not go through if you don’t already have the money. And it’s illegal to use checks to buy things with money you don’t have. But the “avoiding stalkers” thing is truly genius. Who would ever speak out against that? And the big, bad, horrible grocery store that operates at somewhere around 1-2% margin will get what they deserve. The best thing for them to do would be to just stop taking checks at all. It’s only a headache. (Reno News and Review)

Update

This post has been a continuing saga. Please read the new developments.

Addendum to the Roger Clemens portion of today’s Hurl:

Dickipedia on Roger Clemens
I hadn’t heard of this site until I read something on Deadspin that linked to it. What a splendid idea.

And just to be clear, please read the initial Reactionary Hurl so you can understand the context.

I have always had issues with Facebook as well. I have never figured out how to use the ‘Superwall’ and why I’m being invited to vampire tournaments??

Same here. It gets tiring when you get stuff ALL THE TIME. So I’m almost done with it.

I hate Facebook. Someone “sent me good karma” and in an effort to be a good Facebook friend, I tried sending it back and wasted a half-hour signing up for some sort of app I didn’t want.

I don’t get why Roger Clemens’ wife would be taking HGH. And he says it like that makes it ok — HE would never take it, but it’s all good because it was just his wife taking it. No biggie.

It doesn’t make any sense at all.
