Reactionary Hurl: The Caucus Raucous irks Barack...us
It’s another installment of the Reactionary Hurl, the series that makes useless comments about things you may or may not care one lick about. You are encouraged implored to take part by commenting, sending us tips, and spreading the word. If you tell me nothing else in your life, tell me to return my HD-DVD player for an Apple TV. Actually, don’t tell me. Tell Christy. I really want an Apple TV and the movie rental business is so slick. But what to do about Netflix? My word, technology is hard when you’re not swimming like Scrooge McDuck in gold coins. Well, technology isn’t all that hard, but deciding what to buy really is. Help. Oh yeah, there’s some sort of caucus trouble, Sarah Silverman is featured, the Pack makes an appearance, The 51s(!), hipsters, and Eli are all topics in today’s Hurl.
- Obama files a complaint. Here’s where it might get fun. After hearing stories and reading what the aftermath seems to be, i have come to the conclusion that caucuses pretty much suck. Let’s say you show up as a Kucinich supporter. You know you’re doomed because your guy is hopeless. So it all starts and you go to your spot and you and some other guy are standing there hoping to be swayed. At this point, it seems, the process calls for the others to do what they can to get you over. They can give you the vaulted status of a delegate or they can just try to convince you. Who the hell didn’t think people would get aggressive? Mob mentality rules over contemplation in this process, and it’s not the pure democracy I keep hearing about. It’s flat out intimidation and conformity. At least it’s being exposed as such. (Inside Nevada Politics)
- I can now let my Wired subscription run out. They put Sarah Silverman on the cover. And let her speak in the mag. Good enough for me, they’ve covered it. (Wired)
- Pack hires coaches. There’s an underlying truth in this article. Forgive me if I missed the one where they mentioned that Ken Wilson, the 2007 defensive coordinator (coincidentally, a very, very bad defense that should have been very good) got promoted to “associate head coach.” Don’t get me wrong—I’m glad the guy isn’t going to be running the defense, but the small-town cronyism that is practiced by Chris Ault (they’re good friends, so, you know, he can’t fire Wilson) is appalling. I should know better than to expect better. (RGJ)
The 51s: Will they change their name? And take a look at the hat?A new name for Area 51. This is disappointing. I just got my hat for Christmas and now I hear that Area 51, the obvious inspiration for the name of the Las Vegas 51s, is attempting to use a different moniker? I might have to start a Dodger Fan petition to stop this nonsense and keep my hat relevant. Wait, would they be named the Las Vegas Homeys? I might be able to roll with that. (stolen from The Scripper’s del.icio.us feed)- You know what, I’m no hipster, but mercury tastes really good. I like sushi. (Fark)
- I know I’m tired of them. I have a seventh to add: Eli Manning has really matured this playoff season (from the same people who were killing him for seventeen weeks. Go Giants, by the way. (Deadspin)
And just to be clear, please read the initial Reactionary Hurl so you can understand the context.
Comments
Although I’m a huge Apple fan, I still don’t know about forking over $4 for a movie rental I can only use for 24 hours. I will admit, however, the Apple TV is a much better investment than HD DVD (may the format R.I.P.)
Tell me it’s a Blu Ray Hi Def player and not an HD DVD player. Maybe you haven’t heard, HD DVD lost the war.
Josh, I’m afraid I’m going to have to plead the fifth on that one.
Rob, I have the same concern. I want something badly that will play HD format, we needed a new dvd player, the price was right, etc. I need to just take it back and sit on the cash for a while. Sometimes I hate the decisions I have to make on technology.
On another note, I find it interesting, and I’ve taken note, that I spent a lot of time on each of the bullet points in this post, then threw in the part about the dvd player at the last second, and that’s what really matters to you people. That’s really sad for me.
